Who we are

Or, should we say, who I am.

Van Gill Media is the design practice of Dave Milligan, a self-taught graphic designer and acclaimed musician with over twenty years’ experience delivering visual communication for the arts and cultural sector. Working closely with artists, festivals, venues, and arts organisations, Van Gill Media provides thoughtful, audience-focused design that supports artistic intent and public engagement throughout the UK.

The practice has worked with a wide range of established clients including Karine Polwart, Hudson Records, Cromarty Arts Trust, Soundhouse, Tradfest, Shooglenifty, Session A9, Old Blind Dogs, String Sisters, Fèis Rois, Lepus Productions, Simon Thoumire, Martin Green, Colin Steele, Scots Music Group, and Amy Geddes, contributing to projects across music, performance, education, and community arts.

Based in Midlothian, Van Gill Media specialises in print and digital design for arts organisations, performers, promoters, and venues. Outputs include album artwork (CD and vinyl), posters, flyers, brochures, programmes, booklets, and logo and visual identity design. Known for a collaborative, reliable, and detail-driven approach, Dave prioritises understanding the artistic, organisational, and audience context of each project, ensuring design solutions are clear, accessible, and production-ready.

    Whether it’s a straight-forward disc wallet, or 6 panel digifile with booklet, no job is too large or too small. We can even point you toward affordable manufacturers and pressing plants.

    • We can design artwork from scratch.
    Not actually sure what your artwork should look like? No problem, we can come up with beautiful, eye-catching designs and even give you some options to choose from

    • Digital only release?
    Also not a problem! We can provide your cover artwork at the industry standard specifications and any accompanying download material required.

  • • Posters
    Digital or printed, we can provide any size, including A5, A4, A3, A2, A1 & A0.
    We can also accommodate billboard size print jobs.

    • Flyers, Leaflets & Postcards
    For all your publicity and promotional needs. Sizes include A4, A5, A6 etc, as well as DL and square media. This can be printed; digital for use online and social media; or both.

    • Roller banners
    If you have public events or network meetings, Roller banners are a great way to display your products or branding. Get in touch for more details.

    • Books and booklets
    Whether it’s small booklets for an events programme, or your looking to publish a full book, we’ve got you covered. We are also skilled in music typesetting and can be a one-stop-shop for production of music scores and tune books. Again, digital or printed – or both – no problem!

  • • Restore
    We can repair old damaged photographs. A.I. is of course a useful tool, which we sometimes use - however, we’ve spent years learning the craft and still tend to favour the human touch!

    • Colourise
    We can bring your old photos to life with some tasteful colourisation.

  • If you have arrived at this site via a link from a Van Gill Media website, and are looking for someone to build you a site… then sorry, but we decided to stop making websites quite some time ago.

    Yes, we have done some websites in the past but they were mainly for pals. Design is our passion and we realised that the back-end stuff (like coding) just wasn’t for us.
